Two years after winning the Institute, Lorn secretly trains Darrow in swordsmanship while they serve as House Augustus lancers. When Darrow is targeted for death by House Bellona over Julian's killing, Victra delivers him to Adrius au Augustus on Luna. Roque au Fabii offers to purchase Darrow to protect him, but Darrow drugs Roque to save his friend from a planned bomb at the Summit. Later, anticipating an ambush by Aja and House Bellona forces on Europa, Darrow visits Lorn to forcefully recruit him. Tactus au Rath takes Lorn's grandchildren hostage to force a surrender; Darrow forgives Tactus, leading Lorn to execute him and reluctantly ally with Darrow. This alliance is strained when Darrow lets Aja escape to track her back to Octavia on Mars, an act that alienates Roque but solidifies Lorn's commitment to the cause.

In Their Own Story

The tension broke when Darrow visited Europa to recruit Lorn for the invasion of Bellona-controlled Mars. Tactus au Rath, seeking leverage, seized Lorn's grandchildren as hostages. When Darrow chose forgiveness over force against Tactus, Lorn executed his former comrade and formally joined the rebellion. Later, during the chaotic battle on Mars, Darrow stormed Octavia's ship alone to kill Karnus but was defeated by Aja au Grimmus. Fitchner au Barca rescued Darrow, revealing he was Ares, before Octavia's ship escaped. In a final act of loyalty, Lorn stood with Adrius and Lilath at a victory feast where Roque betrayed and sedated Darrow. There, Adrius and Lilath killed Lorn, marking the end of his service to the Reaper.
