Obsidians
Warrior tribes kept in ignorance by the Golds, until Sefi led them into the Rising.
The Obsidians are one of the Colors of the Society in Pierce Brown's Red Rising series, a people of warrior tribes recruited by the Society as slave warriors. Ragnar Volarus grows up among them and tries in vain to enlighten them, and the Society Golds deceive them: the Gods that the Valkyrie tribe worships are mortal Golds in disguise.
Lore & Background
In Morning Star, Darrow, Virginia and Ragnar's sister Sefi invade Asgard and defeat the Society Golds there; Sefi kills her mother, Alia Snowsparrow, queen of the Valkyries, becomes queen herself and leads the Obsidians into the Rising's fleet, and after the victory over the Sword Armada the other tribes recognize her as their first pan-tribal queen. In the sequel books Sefi's Obsidians seize Martian helium mines, Volsung Fa and the Ascomanni of the Kuiper Belt, Obsidians who lived outside the Society's control, turn the tribes against her and kill her, and Volga Fjorgan becomes Queen of the Obsidians.
