Background
Sea serpents finish their journey up the river to encase themselves and hatch as dragons, overseen by Tintaglia, but the hatchlings come out weak and malformed. Thymara, an eleven-year-old Rain Wilds girl born with claws and scaling, comes to know the queen Sintara, who will likely never fly. Alise Kincarron, a scholar of dragons, makes a marriage of convenience with the Trader Hest Finbok, and Captain Leftrin of the barge Tarman finds a piece of wizardwood. A party of the malformed dragons and their mistrusted keepers sets out to find safety in the legendary Elderling city of Kelsingra.
