Background
When her father, Captain Ephron Vestrit, dies aboard Vivacia, the ship goes not to her but to her sister Keffria, whose husband Kyle banishes her. Dressing as a boy, she works aboard a slaughtership to prove herself as a sailor, then joins the liveship Ophelia. With Brashen Trell and Amber she refits the mad liveship Paragon to pursue Vivacia after the pirate Kennit captures it. Kennit later takes her hostage and sexually assaults her; when she escapes, few believe her account.
