Background
Persuaded by his first mate to capture slave ships, free the slaves and throw the slavers overboard, he unwittingly gains legendary status in the pirate towns. When a sea serpent attacks him, Etta severs his leg to save him; Wintrow Vestrit later amputates its infected part. He captures the liveship Vivacia, which comes to believe in him. As a child he was taken prisoner by the pirate Igrot, who killed his father and abused him, and he is a descendant of the Ludluck family, bonded to the liveship Paragon. With sea serpents serving him through Vivacia, his power grows.
