Gameplay
The game is set in the late Edo period. The player begins as a starving rōnin who collapses at the gate of a trading island-city called Amahara. A little girl shares her riceball with the ronin, restoring energy, and a choice appears that introduces the diverse life of a samurai. The combat system from the original Way of the Samurai returns with changes, including stance-breaker attacks on nearly every weapon, a simplified guard/parry system, and instant kill techniques. Dojima from the previous game appears as a blacksmith who enhances swords, though he is unrelated to the main plot. Sword stats are simplified into Attack, Defense, Durability, and Quality. Some special swords can be appraised based on their name.
