Lore & Background

Doflamingo is the captain of the Donquixote Pirates, a former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and the usurper king of Dressrosa, which he took by staging a mutiny against King Riku Dold III. As an underworld broker he had Caesar Clown make artificial Devil Fruits called SMILEs for Emperor Kaido. When the Straw Hats and the people of Dressrosa exposed his crimes, Luffy defeated him; his Warlord title was revoked and he and his crew were arrested.
