Lore & Background
Two years after Shao Kahn's defeat, Shinnok attacks Earthrealm with Netherrealm demons and the fallen Earthrealm warriors whom Quan Chi has raised as revenants. A strike team led by Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Kenshi reaches Raiden's Sky Temple and the Jinsei Chamber, the source of Earthrealm's life force. Defending Sonya, Johnny awakens superhuman powers and holds Shinnok off while Raiden traps him in his own amulet. Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Jax are later restored to human form. Twenty years on, Johnny's new team of Cassie, Takeda, Jacqui and Kung Jin is sent to Outworld, where the former empress Mileena, now holding Shinnok's amulet, fights a civil war against Emperor Kotal Kahn.
