Lore & Background
After Shinnok's defeat, Dark Raiden resolves to protect Earthrealm by destroying its enemies and makes an example of Shinnok by beheading him. That act moves Kronika to rewrite history so that Raiden's interference is undone and he is erased. Two years later a Special Forces team led by Sonya Blade, Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs, aided by Raiden, destroys the Netherrealm castle at the cost of Sonya's life, and Kronika allies with the revenants and the Netherrealm's rulers, Liu Kang and Kitana. In Outworld, Kotal Kahn's attempt to execute Shao Kahn's loyalist Kollector is cut short by a time storm that brings back Shao Kahn and younger versions of several fighters, and D'Vorah takes Shao Kahn and others to her hive to join Kronika.
