Palaven

The turian homeworld, besieged but unbroken in the Reaper war.

Palaven is the homeworld of the turians in the Mass Effect series. Its environment shaped turian physiology: their carapace-like exoskeleton protects them from Palaven's high levels of solar radiation, though not from physical impact.

Background

The turians are an avian species with an exoskeleton and a martial culture modelled on ancient Rome. The turian Vetra Nyx of Mass Effect: Andromeda also comes from Palaven.

Securing turian support at Palaven starts the chain of missions that leads to the genophage cure on Tuchanka.

In Mass Effect 3, Shepard is sent to Menae, a moon of Palaven, to rescue Primarch Fedorian, but finds he has died with most of the Hierarchy's leadership in the Reapers' first assault. His successor, Adrien Victus, pledges turian support for retaking Earth once the krogan help defend Palaven. Despite huge losses, Palaven does not fall to the Reapers, unlike several other homeworlds.
