Krogan

Tuchanka's reptilian warrior species, crippled by the genophage.

The krogan are a species of large reptilian bipeds in Mass Effect, native to Tuchanka, a world of harsh environments, scarce resources and vicious predators. As their technology advanced they destroyed their homeworld in a nuclear war that reduced them to primitive warring tribes, until the salarians uplifted them into galactic society to help end the Rachni Wars. Their rapid expansion afterwards started the Krogan Rebellions, which led the turians to unleash the genophage, a genetic infection that eliminated the krogan's numerical advantage. Krogan have wide-set eyes giving them 240-degree vision, nutrient-storing shoulder humps and thick, highly resistant hides.
