Networked AIs that turned on their quarian creators.

The geth ("Servant of the People" in Khelish) are a race of networked artificial intelligences in Mass Effect that reside beyond the Perseus Veil. The quarians created them as labourers and tools of war; when the geth became sentient and began to question their masters, the quarians tried to exterminate them, but the geth won the resulting war and reduced the quarians to a race of nomads. An individual geth has only basic, animal-level intelligence, but geth share processing power over a neural network, so in groups they can reason as well as any organic race; humanoid geth resemble quarians and have a single glowing photoreceptor.
