The Shibuya Incident stands as the most catastrophic rupture in modern jujutsu history, marking a brutal turning point where the balance of power shifted irrevocably against humanity. Carried out by the group around Suguru Geto, in truth the ancient sorcerer Kenjaku, with the cursed spirits Mahito, Jogo, Hanami and Dagon, this coordinated assault on Shibuya aimed to seal away Satoru Gojo while thousands of civilians were trapped under a veil. It turned into a slaughter that brought mass casualties, the loss of key allies such as Kento Nanami, and Sukuna's brief takeover of Yuji Itadori's body. The incident shattered the illusion of safety for sorcerers and civilians alike, exposing deep fractures within the higher-ups and setting the stage for an all-out war between humanity and curses.

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen adapted the Shibuya Incident story arc in 18 episodes, airing from July 6 to December 28, 2023. The arc followed the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc, which covered 5 episodes. The Shibuya Incident arc was directed by Shōta Goshozono, who replaced Sunghoo Park as series director, with Sayaka Koiso and Tadashi Hiramatsu designing the characters. The arc's opening theme was "Specialz" performed by King Gnu, and the ending theme was "More Than Words" performed by Hitsujibungaku.
