Death of Toji Fushiguro
The Sorcerer Killer falls, shattering the limits of jujutsu and awakening a god.
The death of Toji Fushiguro marks a pivotal turning point in the Jujutsu Kaisen narrative, serving as the catalyst for the Shibuya Incident and the awakening of Satoru Gojo's full potential. Known as the 'Sorcerer Killer,' Toji was a non-sorcerer with an innate physical prowess that allowed him to bypass cursed energy detection entirely. His demise occurs during his confrontation with Gojo in the night before the Star Plasma Vessel arc, ending the life of a man who had already killed countless high-ranking sorcerers and nearly succeeded in killing the strongest jujutsu sorcerer.

Lore & Background
His death is legendary because it represents the only time Satoru Gojo was ever truly defeated in combat, even if only temporarily. During their clash, Toji utilized the 'Inverted Spear of Heaven' to seal Gojo's Six Eyes and Limitless technique, leaving him vulnerable for a brief window. However, this defeat forced Gojo to evolve his understanding of cursed energy, leading him to develop the 'Blue' technique and ultimately shatter the barrier between life and death within himself. Toji's end signifies the moment the 'Strongest' truly became untouchable.
In Their Own Story
The rain slicked the rooftop tiles as the man with no cursed energy stood over his fallen prey. For a heartbeat, silence reigned; the sorcerer who had never known defeat was broken on the ground, his eyes dimmed by a cursed tool that denied his very existence. Toji raised his blade, ready to deliver the final blow that would rewrite history forever. But in that split second of victory, something shifted within the fallen man—a surge of power so vast it tore through the rain itself. The air crackled with energy as the Six Eyes reignited, burning brighter than before, and the Sorcerer Killer realized too late that he had not killed a god, but rather forged one.
Reader's Guide
The event unfolds primarily during Chapter 23-24 of the manga (and Episode 20-21 of the anime), set in Tokyo shortly after Megumi Fushiguro meets Riko Amanai. Toji, hired by Kenjaku to retrieve the Star Plasma Vessel, infiltrates Jujutsu High and defeats Satoru Gojo using the Inverted Spear of Heaven. Gojo is left incapacitated on a rooftop while Toji attempts to flee with Riko's body. However, as Toji prepares to escape, he realizes his mistake: by defeating him, he triggered Gojo's evolution. The sorcerer awakens his 'Blue' technique and the void domain expansion, instantly reversing their positions. The confrontation ends abruptly when Gojo decapitates Toji with a single strike of his cursed energy. This death serves as the narrative bridge to the Shibuya Incident arc, where Kenjaku uses Toji's body for his own resurrection plans.
