Dragon Racing League
The dragon sport of Berk, born from a sheep-catching contest.
Dragon Racing is a dragon sport on Berk, introduced in the 2014 short film Dawn of the Dragon Racers, which is set three years before How to Train Your Dragon 2. In the short, the riders' attempt to round up runaway sheep turns into a contest, and the villagers come to prefer it to Berk's traditional annual Regatta.
Lore & Background
Stoick lets the first official race go ahead with rules: each white sheep scores one point and the Black Sheep five, and the winners get their portrait in the Great Hall and a feast. Snotlout and the twins appear to win, but Fishlegs brings in the real Black Sheep, exposing a painted one, and Hiccup and Fishlegs become the first Dragon Racing champions. Hiccup later concludes that Tuffnut technically invented the sport, since he devised its rules. The Race to the Edge seasons use "Dragon Racing" as their opening theme.
