Lore & Background
In middle school Kyoko led an all-female biker gang; she fell in love with a student teacher, Katsuya Honda, married him after leaving middle school and had Tohru. Katsuya died when Tohru was three, and Kyoko nearly killed herself before remembering that her daughter needed her. Because of her experiences she raised Tohru to believe that everyone needs to feel needed.
Reader's Guide
When Tohru confesses to Kyo, he tells her that he knew her mother as a child and could have saved her from the car, but only by revealing his curse, and that he heard her last words as "I'll never forgive you". In chapter 135 a flashback of Kyoko's final moments shows that she held no ill will toward Kyo: she was trying to say "I'll never forgive you if you don't keep your promise to protect Tohru".
