Sohma Estate
The main Sohma estate, home of the head of the family.
The Sohma Estate is the main residence of the Sohma family and of its head, Akito Sohma. Tohru does not live there: she lives in Shigure's house with Shigure, Yuki and Kyo, and first goes to the main estate when Hatori asks her to visit him there. The estate is central to the family's secret: thirteen members are cursed to transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac, a transformation triggered not only by embraces from the opposite sex but also by moments of weakness or stress.

Lore & Background
Thirteen members of the Sohma family are possessed by the spirits of the Chinese zodiac animals and cursed to transform into their animal forms. This transformation is triggered not only when embraced by someone of the opposite sex but also when the bearer is weak or stressed. Momiji lives alone inside the family compound, and Akito wants the zodiac members, once they are old enough, to live within it for the rest of their lives.
Reader's Guide
The zodiac members gather at the main residence for the New Year's banquet. Kyo's bet with Akito has the estate as its stake: if he cannot defeat Yuki before graduating high school, he is to be confined inside it for the rest of his life. Kazuma's dojo stands near the main house.
