Background
After losing her parents, the young Fern was about to take her own life when Heiter stopped her and told her to stay alive for the sake of her good memories. She devoted herself to magic so that Heiter could die without worrying about her. Mature for her age, she acts as the mother of the party, waking, feeding and dressing the sleepy Frieren and scolding Stark when he stays up late, though she sulks when she does not get her way. She fights with a long wooden staff wrapped in purple ribbons, a gift from Heiter; it was shattered in the fight with Frieren's Spiegel clone during the second test of the First-Class Mage Exam, and after a quarrel Frieren took the pieces to Richter, who rebuilt it. Fern began as a third-class mage and became a first-class mage in Chapter 60. For Stark's eighteenth birthday she gave him a silver bracelet.
