Heiter
The hard-drinking priest of the Hero Party who raised Fern and entrusted her to Frieren.
Heiter was the human priest of the Hero Party. After the party disbanded he returned to the Holy City of Strahl and became a bishop. In his last years he adopted the orphan Fern, and when Frieren visited him twenty years after Himmel's death he asked her to take Fern as her apprentice.

Background
Heiter was cheerful, quick to laugh and quick to cry, and joked about his love of alcohol, which earned him the nickname Corrupt Priest from his party. Inwardly he was more cynical: as a boy he envied Himmel, a childhood companion from the same village, and doubted they could beat the Demon King, until he decided that if he could not believe in himself he would believe in Himmel. He was devout towards the Goddess of Creation and also a frequent liar, and he used Frieren's elven sense of time to keep her with him long enough to train Fern into a mage who could travel with her. He could judge other mages' mana and saw that Frieren was suppressing hers, something even Aura failed to notice. He died a few years after Frieren's arrival.
