Time Machine Causality Loops
Invented by Dr. Bulma in a future ravaged by Gero's Androids, this vessel allows travel between parallel futures, creating a tangled web of causality loops that define the fate of entire universes. Its existence splits reality into distinct branches: the doomed future where Androids decimate humanity, the altered present where heroes prevent that doom, and a third timeline where history is further shifted.

Lore & Background
The origin of the Time Machine is rooted in tragedy. In a future where humanity has been decimated by the rogue Androids created by Dr. Gero, Bulma builds the time machine that brings her son Trunks to the past. This machine becomes their only hope, allowing the last surviving Saiyan warrior, Future Trunks, to journey back to the past. His arrival creates a branching timeline where the heroes of the present learn of the impending threat and alter history before it can occur.
However, the act of traveling through time does not simply overwrite the original future; instead, it spawns new, parallel realities. When Trunks returns to his own world after defeating the Androids in the past, he finds that his timeline remains unchanged because his actions created a separate branch where the threat was neutralized. The device is also used by Cell, who kills the Trunks of his own timeline and takes his time machine to travel back four years, to before the Androids appeared.
Reader's Guide
When Trunks travels back to warn the Z-Fighters, he does not erase his dark future; instead, he spawns Timeline B, a new branch where the Android threat is neutralized early. His original world remains Timeline A, unchanged by his success. Trunks later returns to his own timeline and defeats both the Androids and the Cell of his time, restoring peace there himself. Later, when Cell travels back from Timeline A to the past (creating Timeline C), he further splinters history.

- Trunks' journey creates a third timeline distinct from both his own dark future and the main series' present, leading to unique character fates.
- Cell travels back further into the past than Trunks did, creating an additional branch where he achieves his Perfect Form before being defeated.
