Fusion Dance

Two Saiyans unite to create the ultimate warrior capable of defeating Janemba.

The Fusion Dance is a ritual dance developed by an alien species called the Metamorans, which Goku learned in the Other World; it merges two individuals into a single, powerful warrior for 30 minutes. In the film Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn (1995), this method becomes the only hope to stop Janemba, a massive childlike monster who has shattered the barrier between life and death. Goku, trapped in Other World alongside Vegeta, proposes using the dance after finding themselves overwhelmed by Super Janemba's power. Although Vegeta initially refuses to join bodies with Goku out of pride, he agrees after much persuasion; the first attempt fails, resulting in a weak, obese form named Veku. The successful execution of this technique creates the immensely powerful Super Gogeta, who swiftly defeats the demon and restores order.

The lore of this specific fusion event centers on the crisis in Other World where a teenage oni distracted by a loud walkman causes a cleansing machine to explode, unleashing Janemba. As deceased villains like Frieza attack Earth and the afterlife's check-in station is encased in an immune crystal barrier, Goku and Vegeta find themselves outmatched. Even when Goku powers up to Super Saiyan 3, he cannot permanently defeat Janemba, who merely transforms into a smaller, more sinister form known as Super Janemba. Pikkon attempts to free the trapped King Yemma by insulting the crystal but fails to cause enough damage. With no other options, Goku persuades Vegeta to attempt the Fusion Dance. The first attempt is a disaster: Vegeta fails to extend his forefinger when required, resulting in the feeble fusion Veku, who is severely beaten by Super Janemba.
