Antagonists

Pilaf is the small impish blue leader of the Pilaf Gang, accompanied by his minions Shu, a humanoid dog in a ninja outfit, and Mai, a woman who uses weaponry and technology. Shu had a different name when he first appeared, but when the series was being adapted into an anime Toriyama, forgetting that he had already named him, gave the name Shu, and the manga later adopted it. The Pilaf Gang initially succeeds in gathering the Dragon Balls but is foiled when Oolong's wish is granted before Pilaf can speak his.

They later return to antagonize Goku by attempting to obtain the Dragon Balls again and by releasing King Piccolo. Prior to the events of the fourteenth Dragon Ball Z film and Dragon Ball Super, they use the Dragon Balls to wish for youth but are transformed into young children instead. They try to infiltrate Bulma's birthday party for the Dragon Balls but are stopped, and eventually reform, becoming Trunks' classmates. Pilaf is voiced by Shigeru Chiba in Japanese, and by various actors in English dubs including Dave Mallow, Don Brown, Chuck Huber, and Dean Galloway.

Shu is voiced by Tesshō Genda in Japanese, and by Dave Mallow, Doug Parker, Chris Cason, and Jonathan Love in English dubs.
