London
The rainy home of Wammy's House, far removed from the active Kira investigation in Tokyo.
London serves as a pivotal international stage within the Death Note narrative, representing the global reach of Kira's reign of terror and the subsequent hunt for his identity. While not a primary home base for the main cast like Tokyo or New York, it acts as a critical waypoint where the psychological battle between Light Yagami and L reaches a turning point. The city is depicted through its iconic landmarks and bustling streets, providing a backdrop that contrasts the mundane daily life of its citizens with the high-stakes supernatural crime occurring within its borders.

Lore & Background
While London is the home of Wammy's House—L's childhood residence and training ground for successors like Near and Mello—it does not serve as an active battlefield during the main Kira investigation. L conducted his primary operations from Japan, working alongside the Task Force in Tokyo. The city appears mainly in flashbacks or as a setting for the origin of L's protégés, rather than as a site where shinigami rules were tested against international targets. Consequently, Ryuk remained with Light Yagami in Japan throughout the series, and no direct supernatural events occurred in London during the hunt.
Reader's Guide
London functions as a temporary command center for L's investigation team during a critical phase of the hunt for Kira. Its primary narrative role is to demonstrate that Kira's power transcends national borders, forcing the investigation to become truly global. The city matters because it hosts the testing of specific Death Note rules regarding distance and identity verification. By moving operations here, L attempts to isolate variables and catch Light off guard in unfamiliar territory. For fans, London represents a shift from the domestic thriller aspect of Tokyo to an international conspiracy. It underscores the scale of the threat: no city is safe, and the killer can strike anywhere, anytime.
