Soichiro Yagami
A father's love for justice collides with a son's god complex in a tragic battle of wills.
Soichiro Yagami is Light's father and the chief of the NPA's Investigation Headquarters. He initially leads the Kira investigation team that later joins with L. When L begins to suspect Light of being Kira, Soichiro is unwilling to believe his son would be capable of such a thing.
Lore & Background
After L's death, Soichiro is sent to retrieve the Death Note stolen by Mello by obtaining Shinigami Eyes and infiltrating Mello's hideout. Light originally intended to go himself but was persuaded by Soichiro to let him go instead. Soichiro sees Mello's real name (Mihael Keehl) with the Shinigami Eyes but hesitates to kill him because Mello is a child, and is fatally wounded by a bomb trap set by Mello. In the original manga and anime, Soichiro dies believing that Light is not Kira, but Light's lifespan is not shown to Soichiro through the Shinigami Eyes.
