T'Challa is a fictional character portrayed by Chadwick Boseman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. He is initially depicted as the prince of the fictional African nation of Wakanda who holds the appointed title of Black Panther, using an advanced vibranium suit and superhuman abilities granted by the heart-shaped herb. After his father T'Chaka's murder, T'Challa becomes king and becomes involved in conflicts with the Avengers, his cousin Erik Stevens, and the cosmic threat Thanos.

T'Challa is the prince of Wakanda who gains superhuman strength and agility from the heart-shaped herb, a blessing from the patron deity Bast. After his father T'Chaka is murdered, T'Challa becomes king and discovers the culprit was Helmut Zemo, whom he subdues. He later faces his cousin Erik Stevens, who usurps the throne, but T'Challa wins it back and thwarts Stevens' plan to conquer the world. T'Challa fights alongside the Avengers in Wakanda against Thanos in 'Avengers: Infinity War', but is blipped and returns only for the final battle in 'Avengers: Endgame'. After being restored to life, he joins the final battle against Thanos before rejoining his family. T'Challa later succumbs to an undisclosed illness and dies, passing his title to his sister Shuri.

T'Challa appears in four MCU films before Chadwick Boseman's death from colon cancer in August 2020. Kevin Feige confirmed the character would not be recast nor a digital double used for future live-action depictions. Boseman's performance was lauded as one of the first black superheroes in a big-budget film, receiving critical acclaim. The titular film became the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Alternate versions of T'Challa appear in the animated series What If...? (2021), with Boseman posthumously reprising the role, most notably as Star-Lord. A spin-off series centered on that version was revealed to no longer be in active development due to Boseman's death. The character's creation in comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby was motivated by a desire to include more African and African-American characters, with influences including historical figures Mansa Musa and Marcus Garvey.
