Sokka is a fictional warrior of the Southern Water Tribe from Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel, The Legend of Korra. Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, he was originally voiced by Jack DeSena in the original series and Chris Hardwick in the sequel. As a non-bender, Sokka stands out among his companions who possess elemental powers. He is the son of Chief Hakoda and Kya. Alongside his younger sister Katara, he discovers Aang, the long-lost Avatar, and joins him to defeat the Fire Nation. While initially portrayed as immature and abrasive, Sokka evolves into an intelligent strategist and master swordsman, utilizing weapons like his boomerang, machete, and a meteoric iron jian known as the 'space sword' to combat enemies.

Initially skeptical and sexist, his character arc is defined by growth, culminating in a sincere apology to the Kyoshi Warriors for his chauvinistic views. His father's absence during childhood instilled a deep sense of responsibility, driving him to prove himself despite being clumsy or mistaken at times.

A running gag involves Sokka forgetting that Toph is blind and becoming immersed in viscous substances like raw sewage or cactus juice. Under the guidance of swordmaster Piandao, he adopts unorthodox training methods, such as painting his face instead of practicing calligraphy, demonstrating creativity over traditional skill. His dedication to honor led him to risk his life rescuing his father from 'the Boiling Rock' prison after a failed invasion plan.
