Roku

A former Avatar who served as a spiritual advisor to Korra before their connection was severed.

Roku was the Fire Nation-born Avatar immediately succeeding Avatar Kyoshi and preceding Avatar Aang. He was a wise and merciful Avatar with good intentions who worked tirelessly to maintain peace between the four nations during a period of change, technological revolution, and nationalist expansion. However, he acknowledged that he was too indecisive during his lifetime, and his long friendship with Fire Lord Sozin resulted in his reluctance to end his friend's life and imperial ambitions, ultimately leading to Roku's death and preventing him from stopping a war which would last for one hundred years.

Lore & Background

Roku appears at times before his reincarnation, Korra, serving as a spiritual advisor. This guidance occurred prior to the event where Unalaq destroyed the connection between them. It confirms only that he was an Avatar who preceded Aang and later attempted to guide Korra.
