Zhao

Zuko's first rival and the antagonist of Book One.

Admiral Zhao, first a commander, is a hot-tempered Fire Nation officer who hunts the Avatar in Avatar: The Last Airbender. He is Zuko's first rival and the secondary antagonist of Book One.

Lore & Background

His rivalry with Zuko runs through several episodes: an Agni Kai in "The Southern Air Temple" and an attempt on Zuko's life in "The Waterbending Master", in revenge for Zuko's interference in "The Blue Spirit". During the attack on the Northern Water Tribe he tries to kill the Moon Spirit to destroy the tribe's waterbending, but Princess Yue becomes the new Moon Spirit, and the vengeful Ocean Spirit drags Zhao underwater to his death. In The Legend of Korra his spirit is found in the Fog of Lost Souls, driven mad. He was voiced by Jason Isaacs and played by Aasif Mandvi in the 2010 film and by Ken Leung in the live-action series.
