Warrior Unit

Marley's conscripted Eldian child soldiers, the inheritors of the Titans captured in the Great Titan War.

The Warrior Unit is a subdivision of the Marleyan military's Eldian Unit made up of younger ethnic Eldian conscripted children. Most Warrior cadets are recruited and trained from childhood, expected to carry out their superiors' needs without question, and serve as expendable shock troops who perform the riskiest tasks while the other Marleyan soldiers stay out of harm's way.

Background

When the need arises, the Warrior with the most exceptional performance on the battlefield is given the privilege of inheriting one of the six Shifter Titans that Marley obtained during the Great Titan War (Beast, Cart, Armored, Colossus, Female and Jaw). Because such individuals are rare, Marley tries to keep them out of situations that could cost it one of its Titans. The inheritors and their families become "honorary Marleyans" with rights almost equal to ordinary Marleyans, though the authorities can revoke those rights at any time.

Reiner Braun is a member of the Warrior Unit and the holder of the Armored Titan. As leader of the infiltration unit responsible for Marley's opening offensive against the Walls on the island of Paradis, he serves as one of the story's main antagonists. Zeke Yeager, the unit's "warchief", holds the Beast Titan and, as a descendant of the Fritz bloodline, can turn other Eldians into Titans under his control. Bertolt Hoover and Annie Leonhart, the Female Titan, complete Reiner's infiltration team after Marcel Galliard, nominated for the Jaw Titan, is devoured by Ymir on the journey. Marcel's younger brother Porco later holds the Jaw Titan and Pieck Finger the Cart Titan, which she uses to haul cargo and, at Fort Slava, to act as an armoured tank carrying two machine gunners.

Among the Warrior candidates, the zealous Gabi Braun is the favourite to inherit the Armored Titan from her cousin Reiner, while the timid Falco Grice, competing with her, instead acquires the Jaw Titan from Porco; Falco's older brother Colt is favoured to take the Beast Titan. Author Hajime Isayama wrote on his blog that the Armored Titan's physique was based on the wrestler Brock Lesnar.
