Zeke Yeager

Eren's older half-brother, the Beast Titan and warchief of Marley's Warriors.

Zeke Yeager is the "warchief" of Marley's Warrior Unit and the holder of the Beast Titan, a 17-metre, Bigfoot-like Titan whose long, thin arms let it hurl projectiles over great distances. The firstborn son of Grisha Yeager and Dina Fritz, he is Eren's older half-brother, and because he carries the royal Fritz blood, his spinal fluid can turn other Eldians into Titans under his command. A charismatic leader and sharp strategist, he becomes one of the series' main antagonists from the manga's ninth volume, the start of the anime's second season.

Lore & Background

Brought up to be the vanguard of the Eldian Restorationists inside Marley's ranks, Zeke came to resent parents who always put their cause before his well-being. When the Marleyan authorities closed in on the movement, he betrayed them to save himself and to hide that he descends from Karl Fritz. After inheriting the Beast Titan he resolved to seize the Founding Titan and "save" the Eldians from persecution by sterilizing them. As field commander he oversaw the training of Bertholt, Reiner and Annie before their mission to Paradis, and after it failed he led a second attack: inside Wall Rose he turned the people of Ragako into Titans, then joined Reiner and Bertholt in ambushing the Survey Corps at Shiganshina, retreating only after both were defeated and Levi nearly killed him.

Reader's Guide

During five years of peace with Paradis, Zeke secretly defected to the island while persuading Marley's military leaders to resume the attack on the walls, a pretext for the surprise strike on an international summit that seized the War Hammer Titan and destroyed the Marleyan high command. Briefly held by the Paradisians, he and Eren then set off an insurrection. He seemed to succeed in using Eren to reach the Coordinate for his sterilization plan, but learned to his horror that Eren had manipulated their father into killing the Reiss family through the Attack Titan's power and meant to destroy all humanity outside Paradis. Regretting the lives his actions had cost, Zeke let Levi kill him.

In the anime, Zeke is voiced by Takehito Koyasu in Japanese, with Daiki Yamashita voicing him as a child, and by Jason Liebrecht in the English dub.
