Background

The family gave Marley its freedom and power as atonement for their ancestors' crimes against the Marleyans. For generations they held the 15 m War Hammer Titan, with only a select few knowing the inheritor's identity.

Willy Tybur, the patriarch and Marley's true commander-in-chief before his death, descends from the ancestors who orchestrated the downfall of the Eldian Empire together with King Karl Fritz ages ago. A pacifist, he shares his family's disdain for Fritz's segregation of the Eldians on Paradis, yet while publicly revealing the family's true history and its indifference to Marley's decline he declares his full intention to seize the resources of Paradis Island. Claiming to have inherited the War Hammer Titan, he publicly declares war on Paradis and is killed and eaten by Eren's Attack Titan, which then attacks the Marleyan leadership in the audience.

His younger sister Lara is the true holder of the War Hammer Titan and fights Eren's Attack Titan as its equal. When Eren finds her crystallized body the Jaw and Cart Titans intercept him, giving Lara time to form a new War Hammer body whose spikes stab the Attack Titan without piercing its nape. Eren abandons that body, forms another and picks up her crystal; after subduing the Jaw Titan he uses its jaws to break the crystal open, and its destruction rips Lara to shreds as the Attack Titan eats her remains.
