Background
Kirby based him on Leonard Nimoy's Spock and designed him to change sides between New Genesis and Apokolips. Though he has the powers of a god, Metron is a passive observer who belongs to neither world and avoids their struggle, and he invented the Boom Tube technology the New Gods use to teleport.
In Legends he confides to Darkseid that he holds the key to the Anti-Life Equation but will tell no one. He helps gather Earth's heroes during Zero Hour, gives Iron Man a Mother Box in JLA/Avengers, and in Death of the New Gods learns that the Source is the murderer, standing by as the Fourth World ends until he demands his own death.
In the New 52 he confronts the Anti-Monitor on Earth-Three to head off a war with Darkseid, is struck down by Darkseid's daughter Grail, and later warns the Justice League to evacuate Earth.
