The Mortal Realms

Eight realms born of the Winds of Magic and the wreck of the World-That-Was.

The Mortal Realms, or the Eight Realms, are eight vast planes of existence that float in the Aetheric Void of the Cosmos Arcane; the great drake Dracothion first showed them to Sigmar. They came into being after the World-That-Was was destroyed in the End Times: the eight Winds of Magic bled out of the Realm of Chaos into the void and, over aeons, gathered cosmic dust, nebulae and the debris of the old world and its shattered solar system into new realities. Each realm is the physical form, roughly spherical, of one wind of magic - Azyr (heavens), Ghyran (life), Ghur (beasts), Chamon (metal), Aqshy (fire), Shyish (death), Ulgu (shadow) and Hysh (light) - and is shaped by the character of that lore. The realms are linked by magical portals called Realmgates.
