Soul Wars

Nagash's war to claim every soul in the Mortal Realms, and the starter set that opened it.

Soul Wars is both a period of the Age of Sigmar setting and the name of one of the game's starter sets, which pits the Stormcast Eternals of the Sacrosanct Chamber against the Nighthaunt.

In the setting, the Soul Wars follow the necroquake. Nagash had long planned a crusade to take back every soul he regarded as his own, which by his reckoning meant all souls that had ever existed, and he struck at the powers he believed had cheated him of the dead, among them the followers of Chaos, the Stormcast Eternals, the Idoneth Deepkin, the aelves of Hysh and the Sylvaneth. The Nighthaunt were raised as the first wave of this war, a vanguard of ghosts under Lady Olynder, the Mortarch of Grief. The necroquake also set the Endless Spells loose across the realms, and the struggle that followed became a fight over the fate of the Mortal Realms themselves. Other factions, such as the Skaven, used the chaos to their own advantage.
