Lore & Background
In Warhammer 40,000 a space hulk is a huge mass of ancient derelict ships, asteroids and debris that drifts through the galaxy, dropping in and out of the Warp seemingly at random. That makes them extremely dangerous to explore, but the Imperium takes the risk for the ancient technology and relics aboard. Besides Genestealers, hulks can hold Chaos worshippers, Warp daemons and Orks, who use them as their usual way of crossing space.
