Lore & Background
The books follow the Tanith First, a skilled but undervalued light infantry regiment of the Imperial Guard, during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. Their leader is Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, one of the few political commissars ever officially given command of a regiment. The viewpoint moves around, usually on the Imperial side but sometimes with the enemy. The series began as short stories in the Black Library magazine Inferno!, and elements of it reappear in Abnett's Eisenhorn and Ravenor trilogies and in the spin-offs Double Eagle and Titanicus.
