Development and release
Swedish studio Snowprint Studios, founded in 2015 and previously known for Rivengard and Legend of Solgard, developed Tacticus. Game director Wilhelm Österberg stated the game aimed to be accessible to newcomers while appealing to tabletop hobby fans. Announced in September 2021 with story by Matt Forbeck, it launched on iOS and Android on 15 August 2022. Modern Times Group acquired the game and studio in 2023.
Reception
Jason Moth called it the best Warhammer 40,000 mobile game. Will Quick of Pocket Gamer awarded three and a half stars, praising visuals, mechanics, and lore presentation. Metro gave 6/10, finding gameplay repetitive. Tommaso Pugliese of Multiplayer.it praised content breadth but noted a lack of depth versus traditional strategy games. Connor Christie of Pocket Tactics highlighted art and animation detail. Wargamer described it as slick, comparing it to Raid: Shadow Legends. It won the 2022 Pocket Gamer Award for Mobile Game of the Year.
