Gameplay
The single-player campaign follows the Imperium's Ultramarines over 15 missions as they fend off an incursion by the Word Bearers Legion of Chaos marines on Ruhr III. Multiplayer supports up to eight players via local wireless or global Wi-Fi, with nine maps and a choice between three Space Marine chapters or three Chaos Legions. The DS version includes a versus download play option with four chapters. Squad Command uses a turn-based system with Hit Points and Action Points. HP measures damage; when reduced to zero, a unit is removed. AP represents a unit's time to act each round, expended on movement or weapon use. Movement costs vary by distance, while weapons have a minimum AP cost. Players can spend extra AP to aim, shown by a fluctuating color band that tightens and darkens. Terrain is destructible; powerful weapons can destroy cover and damage enemies behind it. A unit ending its turn with enough AP to fire enters Overwatch, automatically shooting the first enemy that enters its line of sight. Some heavy weapons reduce a unit's total AP per turn to reflect their weight and complexity.
