Release
The turn-based strategy game Deathwatch launched for iOS in July 2015, following its announcement that March. Developer Rodeo Games, based in Guildford, England, later released a PC version in October 2015. Poor sales led the studio to lay off its staff and cease development. A PlayStation 4 version was announced in January 2017 and arrived in Europe the following month.
Reception
On Metacritic, the iOS version received generally favorable reviews, while the PC version received mixed or average reviews. Harry Slater of Pocket Gamer called it the best of recent mobile Games Workshop licence games, capturing the spirit of Space Hulk better than Space Hulk itself. Shaun Musgrave of TouchArcade praised the game as gorgeous with strong design, a big campaign, and a fun challenge, though noting a lack of innovation. Edward Dang of Hardcore Gamer wrote that while not a complex top-down turn-based strategy RPG, it lays solid groundwork in tactical options, challenge, and character progression that remains enjoyable. Jody Macgregor of PC Gamer described it as a decent budget version of a Firaxis-style XCOM with space marines.
