Lore & Background
The final at San Siro in Milan was a repeat of the 2014 Madrid derby final, only the second time both finalists came from one city. It finished 1–1 after extra time, and Real Madrid won the shoot-out 5–3 for their eleventh European title, a record. They then won the 2016 UEFA Super Cup against Europa League holders Sevilla and the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.
