Lore & Background
As league champions Deportivo first qualified for the Champions League and then played in it five seasons running, from 2000-01 to 2004-05, reaching two quarter-finals. Their best run was 2003-04, ended 1-0 on aggregate by eventual winners Porto in the semi-finals, in the same campaign as an 8-3 group defeat at Monaco. The last of the five seasons was their worst: bottom of the group without a win or a goal.
