Alex Zülle
Twice second at the Tour, twice a Vuelta winner, and a confessed EPO user.
Alex Zülle (born 5 July 1968) is a Swiss former cyclist who was among the most successful riders of the 1990s, winning the Vuelta a España in 1996 and 1997, finishing second in the Tour de France in 1995 and 1999, and taking the world time trial title in Lugano in 1996. He admitted doping with EPO and rode for three of the era's most notorious teams between 1997 and 1999. Born and raised in Wil in the canton of St. Gallen, he wanted to be a skier until an accident at 18 and took up cycling during his rehabilitation in the Netherlands. He turned professional in 1991 after Manolo Saiz, who at first refused riders who wore earrings, took him on at ONCE as an apprentice.
