1997 Tour de France
Ullrich by nine minutes, a margin nobody has matched since.
The 1997 Tour de France was the 84th edition, held from 5 to 27 July, and was won by Jan Ullrich by 9 min 9 s, the largest margin since Laurent Fignon's 10:32 in 1984 and one no rider has approached since; Vincenzo Nibali's 7:39 in 2014 is the closest. Ullrich also won the young rider classification, the first rider to take both since Fignon in 1983. His teammate Erik Zabel won the points classification for the second time, Telekom the team classification and Richard Virenque the mountains for the fourth time. 198 riders in 22 teams started, sixteen of them qualified through the UCI ranking and six invited, and 139 finished. The highest point was the Port d'Envalira at 2,408 m on stages 10 and 11.
