1954 Tour de France
Bobet again, with the Italians staying home.
The 1954 Tour de France was the 41st edition, held from 8 July to 1 August over 23 stages and 4,656 km, and was won by Louison Bobet, the second of his three consecutive wins. It was contested by national and regional teams of ten: France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland and a combined Luxembourg/Austria team with a rider from Liechtenstein, plus five French regional teams, 110 starters in all. The Italians were absent: after the French had boycotted the Giro in protest at new non-cycling sponsors such as Fiorenzo Magni's Nivea-Fuchs, the Italian federation declined to send a team.
