1965 Tour de France
A substitute neo-pro named Gimondi beats Poulidor.
The 1965 Tour de France was the 52nd edition, held from 22 June to 14 July over 22 stages and 4,188 km. Felice Gimondi, a first-year professional and last-minute substitute on his team, won ahead of Raymond Poulidor, the previous year's runner-up, and would go on to join the small group of riders who have won all three Grand Tours. The race started in Cologne, the first start in Germany and only the third outside France, and the start ramp was used in time trials for the first time. Jan Janssen defended his points classification and Julio Jiménez won two stages and the first of three consecutive mountains titles, having also won the Vuelta's mountains prize that year.
