The Wild Hunt

They ride through time and space to claim what is not theirs.

The Wild Hunt is a group of spectral warriors in The Witcher, led by the King of the Wild Hunt, the elf Eredin, from a parallel dimension. Eredin, an Aen Elle elven military commander, leads a horde of ghastly riders across the sky. The Hunt turns out to be an army of elven conquerors who seek to conquer the world of The Witcher in order to save themselves from the White Frost, a self-spreading spell that freezes and devastates worlds.

Lore & Background

In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Ciri is on the run from the Hunt, whose leader wants her powers to save his homeworld from the White Frost. The Hunt pursues her to Kaer Morhen, where Vesemir is killed and Ciri unleashes her uncontrolled power, prompting the Hunt to retreat; Geralt and Ciri later ambush and kill Imlerith, Vesemir's killer, and in the final battle Geralt slays Eredin.

Reader's Guide

The Hunt is referenced heavily during the events and flashbacks of The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings before it features in the third game; the first game includes the spectral King of the Wild Hunt, a conqueror from another world. In the Netflix series, the Wild Hunt threatens to abduct Ciri at the end of the second season and later ambushes her when she is on the run from Gors Velen.
