Plot

Geralt is hired to kill an Allamorax blamed for fishermen's deaths in Bremervoord, but releases it after the merman Deroua pleads for mercy. Forfeiting the prize money, Jaskier accepts a festival gig to earn funds. There they meet Jaskier's childhood friend, bard Essi 'Little Eye' Daven. King Usveldt, his son Prince Agloval, and his bastard son Zelest attend; Zelest once bullied Jaskier.

A dying pearl hunter reports a Vodnik attack ordered by sirens. King Usveldt, previously refusing action because Agloval loves siren princess Sh'eenaz, now orders Geralt to hunt the attackers. Agloval is introduced to Princess Nispen. Meanwhile, merpeople and seal people, led by Melusina, demand action against human overfishing and pearl profiteering.

Sh'eenaz calms them, hoping marriage to Agloval will bring peace. Geralt, Jaskier, and Essi find the Vodnik lair and confront an assassin, but Zelest's army kills the Vodnik, sparking a battle that fatally wounds Deroua. Agloval and Sh'eenaz argue after watching the battle, worsening the war.
