Egwene al'Vere
Daughter of the mayor of Emond's Field who becomes a novice of the White Tower.
Egwene al'Vere is the daughter of the mayor of Emond's Field and, in The Eye of the World, Rand al'Thor's sweetheart. The Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred recognises in her the spark of one who can channel the One Power, and Egwene joins the group that flees the village to escape the Shadowspawn hunting the Dragon Reborn. She enters the White Tower as a novice in The Great Hunt.
Lore & Background
In The Great Hunt she and her fellow novice Nynaeve al'Meara hear that Rand is in trouble in Falme and sneak out of the Tower with the novice Elayne Trakand and their friend Min Farshaw. In Falme they are betrayed by Liandrin Guirale of the Red Ajah and handed to the Seanchan High Lady Suroth; Nynaeve and Elayne escape, but Egwene is collared with an a'dam, the device the Seanchan use to control channelers, until Nynaeve, Elayne and Min rescue her. She is played by Madeleine Madden in the television adaptation.
