Vaati is a powerful sorcerer and the primary antagonist in The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Originally a Minish sage's apprentice, he stole the Mage's Cap to gain immense power but was consumed by his own ambition. Seeking the Light Force, he broke the Picori Blade (later reforged as the Four Sword), turned Princess Zelda to stone, and disguised himself as King Daltus to seize control of Hyrule Castle. His actions set in motion Link's journey to reforge the blade and retrieve the Four Elements, culminating in a confrontation where Vaati, having already assumed his one-eyed demonic form, siphoned the Light Force from Zelda after the Four Sword was restored.

Centuries ago, the Picori race trapped the world's evils in a chest using the Picori Blade and the Light Force. Vaati, once an apprentice to a Minish sage, stole the Mage's Cap—a hat capable of granting wishes—and used it to become a powerful sorcerer. Driven by his own ambition, he sought the Light Force but was unable to find it initially, leading him to turn Zelda to stone during the Picori Festival after breaking the Picori Blade (which was later reforged as the Four Sword using the four elements).

Vaati's wish transformed his former master, Ezlo, into the Minish Cap itself—Ezlo becomes the hat and grants the shrinking ability. His obsession with power drove him to disguise himself as King Daltus and take control of Hyrule Castle. When Link restored the Four Sword using the Four Elements, Vaati already knew the Light Force resided within Princess Zelda and directly confronted them, siphoning the Light Force to become all-powerful after assuming his one-eyed demonic form.
