The Martian Congressional Republic is the government of Mars in The Expanse, one of the three largest powers of a colonized Solar System alongside the United Nations of Earth and Luna and the Outer Planets Alliance. The Martians have developed a militaristic, corporatist culture, and Earth and Mars act as competing superpowers that keep an uneasy military alliance so that together they can dominate the Belters, who do the system's gritty resource work and are largely marginalized.

Background

Its navy is the Martian Congressional Republic Navy (MCRN). Alex Kamal, pilot of the Rocinante, is a former MCRN pilot, and the Rocinante itself is a salvaged Martian gunship; Bobbie Draper is a Martian Marine gunnery sergeant who later serves as a UN diplomat. In Nemesis Games a rogue Martian group under Winston Duarte sells warships and stealth technology to Marco Inaros's Free Navy, which tries and fails to kill the Martian Prime Minister, and Duarte's fleet passes through the ring gates to Laconia, cutting off contact with the rest of humanity. Duarte becomes High Consul of the Laconian Empire.
